Our first project was a private film screening of the "KATIPS: The Movie" in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch on 18 September 2022. This was in collaboration with Migrante Aotearoa and Gabriela Aotearoa.
The movie has English subtitles so even non-Filipinos can understand the film.
Awards:
- “Katips: Mga Bagong Katipunero” was originally performed onstage in the year 2016; winning the ALIW Awards for Best Musical Performance that year.
- Won 7 out of 17 FAMAS nominations including Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Picture. FAMAS is like the Oscar’s of Philippine movie industry.
The event was from 1 PM to 5 PM to give time for people to gather and socialize before the actual show. The screening started at 2 PM. The movie ran for 2hrs and 22 minutes. After the screening, we had a Debriefing session via Zoom with the director, Atty. Vince Tañada for around 30 minutes. To our surprise, the other cast members Johnrey Rivas and OJ Arci also joined.
Net proceeds (after venue rental expenses, GST and Katips producers fee) were used as seed money for Banyuhay Aotearoa Charitable Trust.
